The Shumla School, near Comstock, Texas, offers hands-on, interactive educational programs that are designed to serve a broad audience. For adults, families, corporate retreats, universities, and professional and avocational societies we offer Shumla Adventures—a wide range of programs bridging the arts and sciences. (Program descriptions) For public and private schools and youth based organizations, we offer Pecos River Kids—programs that engage students’ minds and hands through real-world investigations that are supportive of a standards-based curriculum. Programs last from one or two days to six days in length depending on the subjects being covered.
AdmissionEnrollment in programs at the Shumla School is not limited by race, creed, sex, color, religion, sexual orientation, or national origin. Group sizes vary by program. Some of our activities require a moderate level of physical strength and stamina. Check here to see the types of hikes that might be included in various programs. Specific program information and a list of supplies you need to bring will be sent following receipt of your registration and deposit. The School office can answer questions about any program before you register. RegistrationProgram costs vary. Family discounts are available; contact Craig Hensley at chensley@shumla.org or 432-292-4848 for information. Restroom and shower facilities are available at the School campus (Campus information). Tents and cots are provided for programs that include overnight stays as part of the scheduled activities. The tents are spacious and sleep two people comfortably. Private tents are available on a limited basis with an additional charge of $150. Participants are responsible for transportation to and from the campus unless otherwise stated in the program's description. A deposit of $100 is required when registration is for a program with a fee greater than that amount. Click here for registration deadlines and fees for upcoming programs. Registrants who send notification of cancellation prior to the stated cancellation deadline will receive a refund of any fees that have been paid minus a $25 handling charge. No refunds for deposit or program fees will be made if notification is after the cancellation deadline. Depending upon availability, registrants may request to reapply any paid fees to a later program within the same calendar year. If the total fee is not paid by the registration deadline, the registrant will be placed on a waiting list and their registration to the program may be forfeited, along with any applicable refunds.
