HANDS ACROSS THE BORDER!
03/11/08 SHUMLA Launches International Learning Project With Grant From Alcoa Foundation — SHUMLA's model for engaging kids in the excitement of learning has earned a well-deserved worldwide reputation for excellence in capacity building: developing and strengthening the skills, instincts, abilities, processes and resources that organizations and communities need to survive, adapt, and thrive in the fast-changing world. In 2007, SHUMLA's international repute led Mexican legislators and educators to approach the Education Division of SHUMLA with a request to envision, design and launch SHUMLA's model across the border in Cuidad Acuña, Mexico. The vision has become reality with an $89,570 grant from the Alcoa Foundation, another $15,000 from the Amistad Foundation, and contributions in dollars and in kind from numerous partner organizations. Sponsors of the Niños del Rio Bravo program are: The Shumla School, Inc., Asociación Vida de Acuña, A.C., Fundación ALCOA, Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Cd. Acuña, Secretaría de Educación y Cultura de Coahuila. More… |
