Angela Kathleen Stuewe Johnson
(Executive Assistant)

Angel Johnson joined the SHUMLA School staff at the beginning of May 2006 after having served as a volunteer during Pecos River Kids, Pecos Adventure, Prehistory on the Pecos, and Pecos Experience programs since October 2005.  She brings discipline and determination to her position as Executive Assistant at SHUMLA School.  In addition to using her extensive organizational skills, she is gaining experience in grant writing and the ins-and-outs of fund raising, and has a deep desire to learn about not-for-profit organization administration.

Angel earned a BA with honors in Anthropology from Southwest Texas State University—now Texas State University-San Marcos—in 2003.  Her studies then relocated to Lubbock, Texas, and Texas Tech University. She looks forward to the completion and award of a Masters degree in Museum Science, from that school, in December 2007.

Her decision to study Museum Science came from two experiences.  The first involved travel; the second a coincidence of location during her undergraduate studies.  Between 1998 and 2000, Angel traveled to Europe three times, visiting museums in Paris, France, Italy; Hungary; Amsterdam, Holland; and both Brussels and Leuven, Belgium.  These visits stirred an interest in museums and their operation.  This involvement was reinforced by circumstances during her undergraduate studies.  For three years, she worked in the University's Library.  During that time she often visited a gallery upstairs, and was fascinated by the mechanics of this facility's operation.  This experience, along with her visits to museums in Europe, lead to the decision to study Museum Science.

Besides her talents in organization and planning, Angel brings a love of prehistory and the outdoors to everything she does.  In her spare time she enjoys kayaking, traveling, and is active in projects mapping underground caves like Carlsbad Caverns with her husband Jack Johnson.
