Teachers' Retreat and Workshop,
Texas Region 15
Education Service Center
June 6–7, 2005

Seventeen teachers from the Texas Region 15 area met at SHUMLA and Seminole Canyon State Historical Park for a two day retreat and workshop emphasizing hands-on learning in an outdoor environment.

Tours the first day, to Seminole Canyon State Historical Park and the White Shaman/Galloway Preserve, showcased the rock art and archeology of the region.

Activities the second day were held at Shumla's outdoor campus. Here the hands-on teaching approach used in Shumla's Pecos River Kids programs was demonstrated to the teachers. Enthusiasm was high for this approach to learning, and the educators focused on ways to bring these teaching techniques back into their own classrooms.

For more information about setting up teachers' training sessions for your school, contact the education division at education@shumla.org or call the SHUMLA office (432-292-4848).
