Neal Stilley starts the fire for the earth oven using a hand friction drill.
 
Puting the plants in the oven.
The prepared oven is filled with prepared lechuguilla and sotol.
 
Covering the oven.
The oven is covered and the plants are left to cook for 24 to 36 hours.
 
Watching the whole proceedure.
Participants watch the entire process closely.

2:00 p.m.

Arrival at Seminole Canyon State Historical park. Go to SHUMLA and set up camp.

 

4:00. p.m.

Welcome to the SHUMLA campus by Dr. Carolyn Boyd, Executive Director.

 

5:00. p.m.

Build an earth oven with Dr. Phil Dering to cook lechuguilla and sotol. Neal Stilley will start the fire using prehistoric technology.

 

6:30. p.m.

Dinner.

 

Sunset Slide presentation and lecture by Elton Prewitt, "Introduction to Lower Pecos Archeology."
